Homeowners

A traditional Homeowners Insurance Policy (an HO3 policy) can cover damage caused by elements (a.k.a. perils) such as fire, windstorms, hail, lightning and vandalism. You may also want to consider including other optional homeowner insurance coverages and policies depending on your personal needs.  An important reminder — damage caused by floods and earthquakes typically will not be covered by basic homeowner insurance policies.

condo image
Condo
While your condo association may have an insurance policy, only condo insurance protects your personal property and personal liability. If your home happens to be a condo, we can offer you choices. Our Personal Home products give those who own condo the choice of three offerings
— Standard, Protection Plus, and Premier.
How much of the condo do you own?
The answer depends on your condo association agreement (also called other fancy names like "Declaration of Condominium" or "Master Deed"). Your responsibility will typically fall into one of two main categories:
“Air space” Ownership info"Air space" Ownership (also called "paint-in" or "what I bring in"): You own the inside of the unit, starting from the unfinished interior surfaces - walls, floors, and ceilings. This generally does not include fixtures or built-in appliances. You might only be responsible for insuring your own belongings such as furniture, electronics, and clothing.
“Bare walls” Ownership info"Bare walls" Ownership (also called "studs-in"): Your ownership is broader, starting from the roof trusses, floor slabs, and exterior walls of the building. This generally includes interior walls, stairs, doors, closets, cupboards, built-in appliances, and heating and cooling systems. You'll need broader insurance coverage for this type of condo agreement.

Renters image
Renters
